LETTERPRESS BISCUITS

Photobucket
When I left Australia, a good friend of mine, gave me these letterpress cookie cutters (available here or here) as a gift. I got a chance to give them a spin last week, which was fun.
Photobucket
I had a little help.Photobucket
I'm no pro cookie maker, but I do love the Biscuiteers recipe from this book - secret ingredient golden syrup makes them extra delicious! And I will press a bit harder next time.Photobucket

Photobucket
I think they'd make some fun birthday biscuits, don't you? Spelling out the birthday-ee's name, a holiday greeting, or can you imagine a cute wedding proposal? (Not sure how many cookie-making men are out there, but I think it would be really sweet!)
I'd love to hear how you think you'd use something like these? Letterpress Biscuits

PRETTY TREAT STICKS & NEW IDEAS

Oreo Treat Sticks by www.polkadotprints.com.au
Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend.

While my shop is on a little holiday, I'm really taking the time to re-assess my work/life balance.
I'm looking at things with a whole new perspective which has been lovely. I'm brainstorming ideas, maybe even a new name (gasp!), I've got the glue gun out more than normal, and I'm getting hands on an back to the crafting that I really love.

So consider this a happy warning that things might be changing around here in the coming months...for the better I think. Lots of fun new party ideas, products in the shop and more of me, which I think has been missing.

Hooray!

Image of some new fun things I'm going to be sharing in the coming weeks!

CHOC MOUSSE SHOTS :: WEEKEND WHIPAROUND

Photobucket
You probably know by now that the recipes I share here are by no means MasterChef standard. They are simple but always delicious - solid, reliable, yummy. You can always jazz something up in a cute jar, with some ribbon or paper goods. At least that's the way I roll!

This little chocolate mousse number is from my sister and I used for the Cherry Love & Safari Park shoots. And, I've actually got some in the fridge right now as part of a choc-berry parfait I'm preparing for friends coming to dinner tonight. It's a super easy recipe...
Photobucket
CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

600ml Thickened Cream
250g Chocolate, melted
600ml Chocolate custard (I use Pauls Double Thick)
Whip cream. Gradually whip in, chocolate custard & melted chocolate till completely mixed through. Put into dish or individual ramekins. Chill till set.

Enjoy!

Here are a few things around the web I came across this week.

Glass bottle + washi tape = cool vase.
Don't throw out your egg cartons
This is how to blow the stationery budget
Old School movies
So many great ideas in the latest edition

Do you follow my Pinterest? Come on over and share in all the fun and games, and have a great weekend!

PIZZA SCROLLS :: RECIPE

Photobucket
Today I bring you the ever-faithful pizza scroll. It's another of my go-to recipes that I pull out for parties, morning tea, lunches, girls nights...and I haven't met someone yet who doesn't like them (unless my friends are all being really polite!).

To be honest the word 'recipe' is used very loosely in this instance, because there is actually no measuring or mixing of any kind. Hooray! They are super simple and easy enough for little helpers too!

Ingredients:
:: Puff Pastry Sheets
:: Pizza sauce
:: Ham
:: Pineapple
:: Cheese & any other vegies or pizza toppings you like.
Photobucket
Lay out the puff pastry sheets to thaw. Spread with pizza sauce (I use Leggo's squeeze bottle pizza sauce). Sprinkle with your toppings - meat, vegies, then top with cheese.
Photobucket

Photobucket
Employ the ever faithful pizza scroll maker on this job {those cheeks are not usually that big}
Photobucket
{And...beware of mice! :) }
Photobucket
 Roll up into a log
Photobucket
Cut into rounds. I get ten good sized rounds out of one sheet, but you could do thinner ones and get more if you prefer.

Place rounds face up on a tray lined with baking paper (makes for an easy clean up and so you're not scrubbing cheese off your trays for weeks to come!). Bake in a moderate oven for about 10-15mins or until cheese and pastry are golden brown.
Photobucket
Eat warm, and just see if you can stop at only one!

Once you get in the groove and puff pastry is a regular in your freezer, you can just chuck whatever you like on these, I often use grated carrott, or diced capsicum to get the vegie quota in. Or you could just do cheese and pizza sauce... Let me know what combo's you try!

CELEBRATE GROWN UP PARTIES :: Tracey's 40th High Tea

How gorgeous is this high tea from Tracey Lau?! Created for her own 40th birthday, it's based on one of my absolute favourite colour combinations - blue & chocolate - so classy! Tracey created all this miniature food herself, including this stunning cake! What an amazing lady.
These chocolate mousse glasses are my personal favourite. Just shows how presentation really makes something 'pop'.
And if you're wondering about the photos...yes, Tracey is a talented photographer too! She lives in Sydney with her husband, and five children...I like her!

And not to take the shine away from this amazing dessert table, but when I first saw this party, other thinking 'WOW' I thought how perfect this theme would work with the 'Jenny' design invitation. What can I say...great minds...! Ha :)

CELEBRATE WINTER :: Hearty Food!

Winter has definately arrived...even up here in sunny Queensland! Today I have a "croupy" son, who looks a sorry little soul, and I am craving all the hearty winter food groups - Pot pies, stews, casseroles, puddings...ah! I can feel those calories already! :)
The recipe for this scrumptious looking caramel self-saucing pudding can be found at Donna Hay.

CELEBRATE A PARTY FAVOUR :: The Lunch Pail

Maybe a little large for a party favour, but what a cute way to package food for an event, conference or party!

Party Favour Friday :: Candied Apples

What a cute way to package up the ever-sticky candied apple! While it's moving into winter here in Australia, these are a great little favour for those of you heading into summer.

You could even do a 'make-your own' favour at your next party (I'm a big fan of these) with a "dipping station" of various coatings and nuts and lollies to cover your apples on a stick. Think caramel, ice magic, sherbet, crushed Tim Tams...mmmmmm.
Oh, that is a actually a good idea...I think I'm on to something here! What kind of party would this apple station suit? An outdoor party? Carnival party? School fete? You know I am going to have to work that idea in somewhere soon!

Just poke a hole in the top of a transparent (or plain cardboard) box with party dots & ribbon for easy transport home!

Bakerella Inspired Plane Cookies!

I have to take a moment to be so chuffed with myself...in a humble way of course! I decorated some cookies...all. by. my. self!
I am often sourcing and making props for my photo shoots and events, so I enjoy checking in on some really yummy blogs like Bakerella & Sweetopia who make sweets & cookies that are out of this world! I get so inspired but have always admired from a distance.
(My cake pops for the Archie party)
I have made Bakeralla's cake pops, but cookie decorating has always seemed so tedious and so I had avoided it. But a moment of inspiration came over me (in the form of a cookie cutter!) The cutter was a perfect match for a new design I have just finished, and so with my new found enthusiasm, I set to work.
The verdict...cookie decorating is time consuming, and tedious (don't know if I would want to do hundreds at a time, or start a baking business or anything!), but quite satisfying to see my end product!
I didn't use royal icing, which I think would give a smoother finish, but all in all, I think they will do the job! You have to start somewhere right?!
Now off to use them in a shoot for my new design!...

Lauren's 1st Birthday & Dedication

This past weekend, we celebrated with our very close friends as their daughter was dedicated and turned one! Liz is one talented, creative mama and planned a truly gorgeous party!
I had the privelege of designing some custom spinning top party dots (say that 10 times fast!), which fit her old school vintage theme. Liz baked and made everything else herself including an impressive 30metres of cute, blue, pink, cherry & white fabric bunting! The outdoor marquee looked gorgeous with a number of food tables, including a low child-height table with paper party hats for the little guests.
(The birthday girls' cute red shoes!)
It was such a lovely morning!
More sugar than my little guy probably needed to consume in one sitting...but hey, what are parties for?! :)

Food Feature - Milk & Cookies

There is just something so cute about 'Milk & Cookies'. For one, it seems so cute because here in Australia, we don't really call them cookies - they are biscuits. Which just doesn't have the same ring to it as 'cookie'! Cookies seem so cosy and full of love for some reason.
I would love to have a 'cookie' favour one day for a party I do - and I'm talking big chunky Mrs Fields Choc Chip cookies! And of course they would have to be packaged beautifully! :)
And these awesome cookie & milk shots are from one of my favourite wedding events from JL Designs. How cool would it be to serve these up to your guests just as your guests are leaving your wedding reception before heading home to bed? A perfect end to an evening of celebration and dancing!

It's my birthday on Sunday, so I will be taking time out to celebrate all weekend long!
...And fingers crossed I will have a store up and running next week!  Hope you have a good one.

Bakerella - Cake Pops

In my blog surfing, I have come across one delicious blog that is definitely worth a mention. Bakerella.
I don’t know where I’ve been…I seriously spent AGES looking through all the ideas & cake pop variations. Take a look at the – wedding pops, cheesecake pops, sesame street pops & loads more - enjoy Bakerella world!

And one of my favourite themed sweet-treat creations is their Fast Food Fun realistic looking burger & fries made out of sugar cookies, cupcakes and brownies. Amazing! (I am trying to think how I might be able to work that into something in the future!)

I guarantee all the ideas will make you want to host a party even if there’s not one on the horizon!
