HAPPY WEEKEND + WINTER OLYMPICS

It's in the midst of summer and still really hot (at least for this pregnant chick), so I'm really looking forward to at least looking at some snow over the coming weeks with these winter olympics happening. I love me some olympics tv viewing. I've downloaded this app ready to catch up on all my fave events too.
When we moved back from Canada, this teaser ad had just launched and it made me feel so darn patriotic. This is how those Aussie athletes train...Go Aussies! : )

P.S This was how we celebrated last winter games opening ceremony.

Have a great weekend!

I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME

Home Sweet Home Even well-laid plans often don't turn out. This post was meant to be up on Monday, but hey, life happens, sisters' have babies early and we roll with it!

But…we're here! We arrived home a couple of weeks ago now. I'm still feeling like I'm in a bit of holiday mode living with family while things shake out. Our earthly possessions are still sailing the high seas and work is slowly happening for Dave, but we are enjoying this sunshine, all the familiar products in the supermarket once again, as well as catching up with friends. If I'm honest, this move has been a little overwhelming, but it is good!

I'm still hankering to head to the beach…can you believe we haven't had the chance to go yet? Oh I missed it!
I share lots of everyday life on Instragram (@polkadotprints) if you want to follow along!

P.S I've also re-opened my shop just in the nick of time for Christmas. You'll notice a whole lot of new stuff in stock, I'll share more tomorrow as well as a special discount just for you! See you then!

CHOCOLATE FAIRY BREAD HEARTS

Chocolate Heart Fairy Bread | by Polkadot Prints photo 130205_Valentines-Fairy-Bread-Lead_zps5e8e7016.png
It's not till you move away from your home country, that you fully realise the foods that are iconic to your heritage. At least that's what I've found. There are the stand out obvious ones, like Vegemite & Milo, but now that we've lived here for a while I'm finding a few different things that aren't on the regular line up of food. Like Lamingtons, passionfruit pulp in a can, or for that matter pavlova for the passionfruit-in-a-can to decorate, Coke spiders (remember these mini's ones?), tasty cheese..., and the grocery list goes on!

Which brings me to today's post - Fairy bread. Oh, yes the humble birthday party staple from my childhood. Cheap & fun, and a little bit retro! I haven't seen this here yet (please correct me if I am wrong fellow Nth American dwellers! :)
But I'm a bit of a weirdo and want my kids to experience stuff that I have happy memories of when I was a kid. So the other day I randomly made some regular fairy bread or afternoon tea; which went down a treat! Sprinkles & butter on bread? Oh yes!

It got me thinking to add some Nutella to the equation...just becuase. I'm probably not the first to think of this, because really, who doesn't like Nutella??

Now this isn't rocket science, but it was fun to kind of shoot these photos as I made them (and made them all heart shaped for Valie day coming up!).
Maybe I'll just have to introduce it at the next kids party I host!.... : )

Simple supplies you'll probably have on hand -
// Bread (traditionally on white, but we are brown bread eaters, so brown it is!)
// 100's & 1000's aka sprinkles
// Nutella
// Cookie cutters if you want.

Choose your 100's & 1000's appying technique - the sprinkle vs the face plant. I'm a face plant kind a girl as it give a good thick coating! :)

Enjoy with some milk and be prepared the wipe away some little chocolatey smiles : )

Happy weekend! I'm off to help Levi create his first ever class valentines...with me luck!

STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME

Australian Adventures Polkadot Prints
Well, we're home! We jam-packed heaps into our time back home in Australia. So much so that I think with the addition of jetlag, it's taken a bit longer than normal to get back into the swing of things back here in Canada.
The main purpose of the trip was for my brothers' wedding to his lovely bride. A sunny day by the bay was the perfect setting for one beautiful & relaxing day! Gorgeous couple eh?

It was so refreshing to shirk the heavy coats of this Canadian winter and galavant around in dresses, and a sleeve-less wardrobe!
Our days were filled with family get togethers, hanging with friends, lots of sun, and all our favourite foods, oudoor eating, ice cream & sushi just how we like it.
I visited with Daneve of Ah Tissue, and Linda from Bubble & Sweet which is always fun to chat party things. We visited our home church who had an amazing larger than life tree centre stage for a Christmas series. So much fun and so little time.  Photobucket Australian Adventures Polkadot Prints
We've hit the ground running now that we are home. Only 7 days until Christmas...yikes, need to get my wrapping on! Yeeha Christmas!

C'MON AUSSIE, C'MON!

Photobucket
I'm signing off a little early to get ready for a trip back home to Australia for my little bro's wedding. I'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks, celebrating, long days of nothing, catching up with family & friends, eating some of my fave foods, and enjoying beaches and weather like this I hope!

I did have a new project to share, but that will have to wait until I get back. Things to do, bags to pack, travel packs to make!

I'm sure I'll still be sharing the instagram love @polkadotprints so follow along if you like!

Till my return...enjoy!

A VISIT FROM HOME

I mentioned on Friday that my parents were visiting with us over the weekend. Well, they arrived! It was so lovely to see them, and to talk, talk & talk. And in between talking, we visited the mall, zoo, went on a date (woop!) and celebrated a little boy's 4th birthday; we packed a lot in! I didn't even get my big camera out a lot because I just wanted to just enjoy. That's when a phone comes in so handy, don't you think? (Totally loving Instagram for this. You can get a glimpse into my world & follow @polkadotprints).

It was all tears at the airport, and our house is a little bit emptier now. Time to distract myself with some creative projects I think! : )
