ICE CREAM WALL PRINT SERIES

Ice Cream Wall Print Series | by Polkadot Prints Ice Cream Wall Print Series | by Polkadot Prints Ice Cream Wall Print Series | by Polkadot Prints
I have been working on updating some of my most popular invitations lately and my ice cream stationery is one of the lucky ones. It includes some new illustrated ice creams and icy poles (or popsicles for my North American friends!) and I thought they were worthy of a feature of their own.

Wouldn't these look fun in a playroom, dining room or even outdoor space? Yummo!

Wall art available in my shop.

Well, signing off for the week. What do you have planned for the weekend? We have a bit of errand running to do, and then a whole lot of nothing because it's holidays for three weeks in this house! Yay for the school-free days! : )

TICKLE THE IMAGINATION ICE CREAM PARTY

Polkadot Prints featured in Tickle the Imagination magazine I was really happy to receive an email in my inbox last month from Tanya of the beautiful Tickle the Imagination magazine. She asked to feature some of my work in their upcoming issue and we settled on a little Ice Cream bar 'how to'. I was so delighted to see it all prettied up in the flesh last week.

So many gorgeous ideas and talented people in this issue. Love the dessert feature and one very cute veggie patch party!
View the latest issue here. And why not make the most of the the last days of warm weather and host an ice cream party over the coming holidays! (yay to the school holidays : )

BRANDED :: MOLLY MOON ICE CREAM

Since our evening out at What the Truck, owning a food truck is on my bucket list. I saw this truck & branding of Molly Moon Ice Cream recently which is enticing me even more! I love the retro vibe, and brown & blue are one of my favourite colour combo's.

Wouldn't it be fun to just drive around and sell ice cream making people so happy? My idea of a good time!
If you had a food truck, what would you sell?

FAMILY IS FOREVER

Before Ellie was born, I organised to have some newborn photos taken with Etta Photography. We didnt' get professional photos taken of Levi as a little baby and it was something I really wanted to do this time round.
Maddie was truly so brilliant with 7 day old Ellie. She cried nearly the whole time for her solo shots, but Maddie still managed to grab those split seconds of peaceful looking baby-ness. So sweet! Can't believe she is now 8 weeks old - she's changed a fair bit since these photos and I feel like she has been around for ages. Oh how I love her! xo

We coupled her newborn pics with some of all of us, just because we could. You might remember the ice cream picnic we had at the park? Photobucket

Photos are something both Dave & I treasure, so these will definitely be added to the family album. Thank you for capturing us, Maddie! xo

ICE CREAM PICNIC & FABRIC CONTAINER DIY

For our recent family photoshoot, I wanted to do something special, but not too styled looking. Those of you who know me, know I love a good ol' ice cream buffet, so it was decided an ice cream picnic would be a good activity for the shoot - keeping it fun and relaxed. I was inspired by this.

Instead of creating some paper goods, I decided on a little bit of fabric to spruce things up. I kind of like how it all turned out. Understated but pretty. Photobucket
Here's the supplies I used:
:: Ice Cream cups from Sweet Style
:: Ice Cream tub from Baskin Robins
:: Contrasting fabric from Spotlight
:: Glue + Scissors
Photobucket
And a bit of a DIY of instructions...
Photobucket
:: Apply glue all over the container & wrap fabric around the top edge of the cup and press to hold. (I kind of tucked up the cut edge into the lip of the cup to make a clean finish).
Photobucket
:: Trim generously around the base (you will fix this later)
Photobucket
:: Working around the cup, press the fabric down the sides. Because the cup is tapered, you will need to make slits periodically to help it sit flat.
Photobucket
:: Glue the overlap so it lays smooth.
Photobucket
:: Once it's all flat and smooth add some extra glue around the base and trim the fabric so it's flush with the bottom of the cup.
Photobucket
:: Use the same method to cover the large container, and hey presto, pretty containers!
Photobucket
This is one of those ideas that I now want to apply to everything! Got something you want to wrap in fabric? I'd love to hear!

SUMMERTIME SORBET

So who doesn't like ice cream in the summertime? These ice cream sandwiches have me licking my lips! They are from a shoot I was privileged to be a part of late last year for Peekaboo Magazine. I designed some custom paper goods and props for the feature fashion shoot styled by Jenn of Style Milk. Lots of summery sorbet colours and refreshing smoothies!

I learnt a lot on this project, working with children in a fashion shoot environment for the first time. (Even driving home I was making mental notes for "next time"!)  I hope I get a chance to apply these  to more projects this year - bring on 2012!
You can see some more piccies on Naomi's blog (I love the boy and the surfboard - so beachy!)

ICE CREAM CONE WRAP

Photobucket
Don't you want to just jump in and lick those drips?!
I'm so excited for summer! The weather lately has been warming up nicely and it's almost pool weather.
In getting in the spirit of the warmth that's on its way, I wanted to create a new element for my popular Ice Cream Sundae printable collection. I designed an ice cream cone wrap for a great addition to your ice cream bar.
Photobucket
An ice cream bar is such an easy and fun way to serve dessert to party guests, or why not let people create their own dessert at your next summer BBQ. I can guarantee it won't be just the kids having a great time!

CHOCOLATE ICE CREAMS

Photobucket
I have ice cream on my mind this week after designing some 'summer' props for a photo shoot yesterday. It's gotten me in the mood for summer,  and has inspired a new printable item to share with you later this week. (Oh, so fun!)
But in the meantime, you might recognise a 'chocolate on a stick' fetish I seem to have developed (see here & here). And it reminded me of these little guys from when I put together the Father's Day crate of goodies.
Photobucket
While not really 'Father-y' I had to pop a couple of these little chocolate ice creams in my shopping basket when I found them at the lolly shop - too cute to ignore. Levi gave them a taste-run after I took some photos to share. Definitely no taste complaints!
Photobucket
Hmmm, now how to personalise and colour co-ordinate something like this....my mind never turns off!

WEDDING ICE CREAM BAR :: DAVID & ASHER

Photobucket
In January this year, one of my sisters, Asher, got married. It was summer, it was boutique and casual and I loved the vibe the whole wedding had. So family & intimate. I designed the invite and other paper goods to match her vintage floral theme, and she also asked me to put together an ice cream bar for the guests as dessert.

Their wedding was meant to be featured in the next edition of Wedding Style Guide, but since they are no longer publishing their magazine, (*sniff!*) I am free to share all these gorgeous piccies of the sundae bar with you!
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
A lot of the toppings were displayed in floral bowls from a dinner set that Asher already had. It was so pretty and didn't really need a lot of prettying up.
I used some co-ordinating framed instructions for the bar and added some buffet labels with strips of fabric around other glass jars and jugs. The fabric strips were left over from the wall-hanging hoops and bunting Asher made, which really helped tie in this area with the other food and drink areas at the house.
After everyone was full with ice cream and toppings it was time for a refreshing dip in the pool...who does that a wedding? Love it!

There are so many other lovely photos from this day, I might have to do a part II to show you all! Are you up for it?

{This was the first time I met Maddie from Etta Photography who took all these lovely photos! Love how she makes everything look so....well, lovely!}

BRING ON SUMMER

Photobucket
I have woken today with my first (and fingers crossed, last) cold of winter. I have survived healthy so far, but today I have fallen. Sore throat, sinus, and heavy head. I don't know about you, but I am totally ready for summer!
I read that it is Ice Cream sandwich day in the US today. I had no idea (who decides on these things I would love to know!), but I'd love a summer ice cream party right about now. Are you a winter or summer lover?

SHAR'S SWIM & SODA PARTY :: CUSTOMER PARTY

I have had quite the flurry of custom party stationery orders lately. It's been fun. The wave seems to have subsided a little, and now the fun part of seeing how all your parties came together are coming into my inbox.

Tash wanted a retro style 'Swim and Soda' party for her daughter, with ice cream, 'soda's' and lots of summer splashing! I designed this 'retro' inspired invite, buffet labels, thank you tags and even sunscreen bottle label for her.
She created an authentic surf/beach atmosphere on the day, complete with heaps of sand and their personal life guards! Her daughter has some allergies, so I loved how she made scrumptious things the birthday girl and everyone else can enjoy too!

Tash is an old friend I haven't seen face to face in a long time (so, thank you Facebook!). She puts in a lot of detail and effort into making family life sweet for her children and husband, and is always creating little celebrations amongst the everyday. Love your work Tash!
