LEO THE LION BOY BIRTHDAY INVITATION

I designed these Leo the Lion birthday invitations for a special little guy a few months back. I think it's kind of fun they went with the whole "Leo the Lion" theme and embraced it whole heartedly. Leo's mum is a friend of mine and she had a pretty solid idea of how she wanted them to look which makes my job a whole lot easier in many ways. Also they planned for no gifts, so they wrote a little blurb on the back as an alternative for guests to donate to a charity gift catalogue if they preferred. I really love that idea for small children when they truly don't need too much in the way of toys. Don't you?
I think this mangey guy turned out pretty cute in the end!

WATOTO GALA DINNER 2012

Do you remember the stationery I designed for Watoto a few weeks back? I just had some photos sent to me from the night. It's so lovely to see something I've designed come to life. The decor was a great mix of corporate and 'African' I think!

It was a free Gala event for corporate supporters of Watoto, MC'd by tv presenter Heather Foord, and with live performance by the Watoto Children's Choir. During the evening guests are given the opportunity to donate to the charity. I've seen this concept done by a couple of different organisations and from what I've heard it is really successful.

I would probably be more generous with a donation if I'd just been warmly hosted, received a free dinner & concert. What about you would you give more at this kind of event or at a per head fee event?

You can find out more about Watoto here.

Real Life :: A Trip down memory lane...

It's been over two years since my husband and I lived and worked in Uganda. We met some amazing people and experienced some life-changing things while we were there, and it will always remain a significant time of our lives.
(a local shop opens up to the busy street)
We have some friends staying with us at the moment who are based in Canada but run a project in Uganda called HIPPO Africa
(a gorgeous young girl in the IDP camps of Gulu)
It's been fun to show them around our city and reminisce on the great & sometimes crazy times we shared in a developing country!

Feature Print – ‘Safari’ Baby Shower & Party

My self-declared 'Baby Shower week' is now over, but here is some inspiration I didn't get a chance to post last week, and since I'm still in the Baby Shower mode with all your lovely feedback, here is a different theme to get your juices going!

The Safari theme is a personal favourite of mine, see my post here for the reason why.
What started as my little guys first birthday party invite, has now turned into a complete set of stationery. I designed a Baby Shower invite just recently to fit in with the theme and introduced a little Zebra amongst the jungle animals! From Baby Shower Invite, Birth Announcement, and Party Invite. Pretty much the first year is covered! :)

Meet the safari party...
And some theming inspiration for children's party or baby shower!

A Heart for Haiti

Well, we're all shocked and saddened by what we see on the news about Haiti.

I have lived in Africa and seen tragedy. My parents have been involved with Compassion, and have visited Haiti themselves. I know poverty and despair first hand. I know that Haiti is the poorest country in the world. From that status to then having a disaster like this strike..that I have'nt seen - there are no words...

It never fails to challenge me though that just by the fact of where you are born determines opportunity, or lack there of, in life. I always feel that in my 'plenty' it is my obligation to do something for those who don't even have 'enough'.

I don't want to force anything upon you, but if you would like to donate to the Haiti relief fund and don't know how...can I suggest Compassion? You can donate via their website here. Every little bit helps!

And let's continue to pray for that nation in the months and years ahead. A long road, but our neighbours need our love...

Going on Safari for a 1st Birthday…

(Safari themed invite & announcement)

This Safari theme is a personal favourite of mine. I originally designed this 1st birthday invite based on a photo book I designed for my little guy’s first birthday. It was to be a memento of his first year of life (he’s now 16mths old and I’m still working on it!! – one day!)

(My little guy - look at that cute chubby hand! Photo: Voice Photography)

We discovered we were pregnant with him just prior to returning to Australia after a 12mth stint in Uganda. African animals and themes have seemed to just come naturally when I design for him!

I have now expanded this Safari theme range to include the birth announcement you see, and of course – matching ‘polkadot party dots’. Pics on the website to come...
