CANADA DAY

 Canada Day in Edmonton So, Canada Day, feels like forever ago (a mere week & a half!) We had a great day spent out at the Military base for their community street party. There was a heap of stuff that was free; popcorn, bouncy castles, nerf wars etc. But one of the highlights was being able to sit in, pilot & crawl through a real army helicopter & tank. A boys' heaven! Our friends with us said it beats the crowds and expense of the big city parades and events, hands down. A perfect afternoon for the fam, I say! We would definitely recommend it for next year.

It's been all action on the home front of late with summer holidays, lots of new things I need to photograph for the shop, and designs waiting to be finalised. Can't wait for some more design time in the next few days!

P.S. Check out these desserts Life is a Party made with my free Canada Day printables - delish! Thanks for sharing with me Dannyelle!

CANADA DAY

For the first time we will be celebrating Canada Day actually in canada! What a novelty!
Currently what I am really enjoying about this country:

// Drive thru everything, coffee, burgers, even ATM's!
// Donuts. I've never been a huge fan, but I have to admit they are pretty delicious. The sour cream glazed ones I used in these photos are my fave.
// Amazing scenery - tall straight trees and lakes...everywhere!
// Supermarkets are a one stop shop. Groceries, homewares, bakery, clothes and chemist all in the one place. So handy with children.
// People truly make the most of the warm weather and have a true appreciation for the four seasons. I love that.

I'm starting to get a little more confident in how things run too which is a bonus.

If you're celebrating Canada Day, you can download these food picks, patterned paper and Canada Quiz for your Canada day event. I realised what a mess my past Canada Day posts are, so if you're looking from some more inspiration you can check out some of our past family celebrations here & here.

Enjoy eh?!

FAVOUR FRIDAY :: CHOC-A-BLOCK CANADIANS

Did you celebrate Canada day? I'm glad lots of you used the free printables I shared with you. I ended up using the party dots to package some favours I had at each place setting of our Canada Day dinner party (dinner party sounds so fancy eh? We had friends over for dinner and we had a table cloth on the table. That equals dinner party in my books!).

I saw these chocolate bars last year. I discovered they don't ship to Australia, so I have been on a casual search for the perfect moulds to make my own. It took me a few months but I found one here. I thought Canada day would be the perfect excuse to use them for the first time.Photobucket
The adults had the big bars and the kids got little ones. I used mini Oreos & mini marshmallows on the backs they felt Canadian enough!

I then popped them into white paper bags, crossed over with red ribbon and sealed with a party dot. Sweet!

Hope you have a lovely weekend all!

OH CANADA! :: FREE PRINTABLES

Alrighty Canadians, today is your lucky day, eh?!
I know there is all that hooplah about another important date in July for your southern neighbours, but this giveaway is all about you and the 1st (not 4th) of July...Canada Day!
Photobucket
And why on earth would a fun-loving Aussie girl care about the significance of a day celebrated on the other side of the world? Well, I happened to marry a Canadian and so I owe it one and half members (husband + son) of my family to celebrate this day in red & white style!

Last year we did a big shebang as we had some friends from Canada visiting, but this year it's going to be a bit quieter. I thought you might enjoy putting to use these party dots, some decorative paper, and the Canadian quiz we used.

Enjoy!

Canada Day Party :: Dessert Table

Typography sets the scene for our dessert table at our Canada celebrations on July1st!
Bakerella inspired Brownie cake pops & a little Australian 'Frog in a pond' cups for the kids!
I used my free Canadian printables (download here) and printed onto sticker paper, which made it easy to add some design elements to the red & white dessert table. And one of my favourites 'wow' factors...the Red Velvet Cake.

Full.
The wall decoration was white home decor letters ($2 each from Typo) attached to the wall with vertical curtain of red wool from Lincraft. It turned out exactly how I had pictured it in my mind...I love it when that happens!
FREE Printable download for this theme available via here

Come back tomorrow, we have some SERIOUSLY big changes happening here at Polkadot Prints...we're going PRINTABLE!! More details to come...I'm so excited!!
