Hey all, happy Monday! I just wanted to say a big thank you so much for all your kind words of congratulations on the arrival of Ellie. We're slowly finding our new "normal" and enjoying our little girl. We had a newborn and family shoot with Etta Photography a week ago (you may have seen a peek on Facebook!) Here's a little taste...I can't wait to see them all and share with you!

I'm hoping to get back into regular blogging and updating of my shop this week. It feels good to get back into the creative zone! I'm currently working on the new re-brand for Polkadot Prints at the moment and have some new fun designs ready for 2012!

I love that you read and enjoy the craftiness that goes on here. Thank you for every comment and word of encouragement & enthusiasm, it really means a lot to me. I'm inspired by you. So thank you!

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY

Happy Australia Day for Thursday! I hope you had a fun day those of you who celebrated! We had some friends over for pizza, pool and ice cream. I really enjoyed emerging from newborn-world, and getting my craft on! I pottered about designing some printables and pulling a few props together, most of which I had on hand (which is lucky as I haven't mastered getting out by myself with two children just yet).
I know it may sound a little bit 'bogan', but I actually love the Southern Cross. I was inspired completely by this shoot I shared last year. I needed some other signage for our little get together, so there are a few more themed Australia Day freebies for you at the end of this post that work in with their invites and other printables. A little last minute addition were these fun fans for each person - it was so humid, they came in handy!

I used party dots on the ice cream cups, and buffet circles for some of the food.
And Australia Day is not complete without a dip in the pool! Fun times!

SWEET STYLE :: CAKE & PUNCH

While I'm spending some quality time bonding with our new baby, I'm privileged to have some wonderful blogging friends pop in here and share some inspiration. A huge thank you to Leanne from Sweet Style in Sydney is getting me craving some cake in a jar!

I have a thing for interesting jars but I also have a thing for jars that have multiple uses! My latest love in jars is the fabulous Ball Mason Jar - yes I love the antique vintage blue ones but this one is brand new and is so versatile.

It is the perfect size for a cake in a jar - a great way to serve your guests at a party or even as a take home gift - change the colour of the patterned paper in the lid and you can match the theme of your event. Here I have layered a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting to go with the festive red dots and twine used as decoration. Attach a spoon and an instant dessert is ready.

When you have finished your cake you can then use your jar as a fabulous way to serve your next drink.

Just right with a delicious ice cold summer punch and they lookcute with these little lids that are a perfect fit for a stripey straw.

Eating cake and drinking punch just keeps getting more enjoyable.

SHHH....FREE DOOR HANGER FOR MUM + BABY

Hi everyone! I'm Becca of the blog CAKE. and I am thrilled to be helping out while Jordan is away spending time with the newest addition to her family. I've been a longtime fan of Polkadot Prints and though I can't hope to replace Jordan's talent, I'm offering up a little freebie to help ease the blow of her absence.

Every new mama has heard the advice 'sleep while the baby sleeps', but with so many people (big + small) crying out for your attention, sometimes a nap begins to feel like an impossibility. I designed these door hangers as a little gift to Jordan during her maternity leave, and for all moms who could use some serious R+R. Simply print the file onto heavy cardstock, cut and hang over your door knob- either on your front door to warn off guests that unexpectedly drop by OR outside your bedroom and nursery to remind your family to keep the volume down during naptime.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD ELLIE

Finally, our baby arrived over the weekend - a girl, Ellie Morgan! It was a whirlwind and beautiful moment welcoming our little lady into the world. I say 'little' because she was a tad on the hefty side, 10lb 13oz (coz you want all the details right??).
If you've been reading the happenings here on my blog for a while, you'll know that there have been some dark days following multiple miscarriages back in 2010. So, when she was born, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, it was amazing, words can not explain! We named her Ellie which means "God has answered us". So fitting for her, she is such a beautiful miracle. xo

We are getting use to a newborn in the house again, so thing might be a little sporadic around here for a bit. I do have some wonderful posts scheduled from me and guest posts that will keep you in the party mood though, so thanks for your understanding as we enjoy Ellie. xo

This is my first freebie printable of the year and I'm dedicating it to my mum. xo
She asked me to make a birthday & anniversary calendar which was a year in view format so that she didn't miss those in the early part of a month. You know if you have to mail a parcel and should have done it two weeks before the 1st of June, but because you didn't flip over the calendar till the 1st, poor Aunty Betty gets her birthday present two weeks late? Well, not anymore! You can see everything coming up at a quick glance.
And because it's perennial, you don't have to re-write everyones birthdays on each years calendar, you can just keep adding to it over time.

I thought it might be something you might get some use from too as we plan and get organised for this new year!

SEVEN YEARS AGO

These photos were taken at our wedding seven years ago! I was looking through our wedding photos just last week and I can honestly say I still really love our wedding...and I love us.

We have done so much in seven years, and experienced many things - like travelling, having a child, taking shaky steps of faith, and generally sharing everyday life with each other, our families and friends. And we've learnt a whole tonne too - like the time we wallpapered a room in our first house together (let's just say it was a little tense!) I'm so glad we change and grow over time!

Well, here's to my wonderful husband and many more happy years to come! xo

THE PERFECT PAIR IN REAL LIFE

Do you remember the 'Perfect Pair' shower for my sister? Well, the perfect pair turned out to be Noah & Poppy - aren't they cute?

I just thought I'd share a photo of them looking so cuddly and peaceful, and also a photo of Salem & I a week or so before she gave birth. I laugh because for the first time I was skinnier than she was, quite a proud moment for me (it took her having twins to make it happen though!)

I'm still looking similar to this. With my due date being yesterday, we're still here waiting to find out if we will have a girl or a boy...oh the excitement. Off for a walk to see if I can hurry things along!!

SUMMERTIME SORBET

So who doesn't like ice cream in the summertime? These ice cream sandwiches have me licking my lips! They are from a shoot I was privileged to be a part of late last year for Peekaboo Magazine. I designed some custom paper goods and props for the feature fashion shoot styled by Jenn of Style Milk. Lots of summery sorbet colours and refreshing smoothies!

I learnt a lot on this project, working with children in a fashion shoot environment for the first time. (Even driving home I was making mental notes for "next time"!) I hope I get a chance to apply these to more projects this year - bring on 2012!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm always a little behind the eight ball when it comes to celebrating new years. And let's be frank, in the past few years, I've struggle to make it to the magic 12 o'clock, but I do like the new outlook, the freshness off the start to a new year.

"What is the one word or sentence that sums up 2011 for you?"
My dad asked this today at a family lunch and the word that sprung to mind first for me was: "transitional". It's been a year of waiting; in a holding pattern or "limbo-land"as I often call it. Our house is temporary, we've been waiting for decisions about a big move next year, and we're growing from one child to two not to mention all the little day to day ups and downs of life. I'm ready to launch and for things start to move forward in 2012! Bring on a season of 'new'!

I really feel that the best is yet to come next year. I like to think of the cup half full, so I do get this way every year when I think about the potential a whole new year brings. But, maybe this year it will be more tangible in a way.
I've been thinking a lot about what my business too and what that will look like next year. How much time I want to spend on it, what I want it to say and how I want to position myself in the industry's I find myself a part of. It's been a bit of a brain drain and sometimes I've felt like I am going to be going against the tide with some changes I'm going to be implementing, but I feel it is right. So, you may see some things changing around this place, some new priorities and maybe even a new look (yay!!).

I saw this New years resolution kit via Dandee today and I wish it was around in the past two weeks for me to get my thoughts together about goal setting for 2012. You never know, it still may come in handy as I deliberate and make some intentional decisions... : )

CHRISTMAS CLAY STARS :: DIY

I'm going to squeeze this post in before the New Year hits. It's a little project I did for our Christmas dinner table inspired by Real Living magazine. I know it's too late now, but you can always file it away on Pinterest for next year. Or use this concept for placecards for a wedding or your next party!
Materials you'll need:
1:: Air Drying clay - I bought this at Bunnings for under $10 and I made over 20 stars with some leftover
2:: Alphabet Stamps
3:: Star Cookie Cutter
4:: Rolling Pin (I raided the playdough box for this mini one)
5:: Skewar or pencil for making a hole in the top
6:: Ribbon or twine for attaching

Roll dough out till about 5mm thick and use the cookie cutter to cut out your stars. (Enlist "help" as required.) You may need to really knead your dough to get it soft and not crumble.

Using the stamps, press your word or name gently into each shape. You could put ink on the stamps if you wanted a colour, but I want to be able to use these again with a different coloured ribbon, so didn't want to be locked into one colour scheme. I used the words 'Joy', 'Love', 'Hope' & 'Peace' and made kind of a set.

Using a wooden skewar or pencil etc, make a hole for the ribbon in the top of each star making sure you've gone right though to the back.

Let them dry. Ours took overnight to dry completely and I had to turn them a couple of times to make sure they dried flat and not curl up at the edges.

If I'd thought about it earlier, I think these would make a great Christmas gift idea. Packaged up in a cute box. Or even an everyday set with words like 'Eat', 'Drink', 'Party', etc could be great for your hostess friends! Hmmm....guess what people are getting next year?! :)

CHRISTMAS 2011

It always seems so relaxing this "in-between week" between Christmas & New Years. A good time to eat leftovers, chill and plan and think for the new year.

How was your Christmas? On the weekend we went to the Christmas eve service and then opened our traditional Christmas Eve pressies of new Pajamas (so we all look smashing on Christmas morning. Except that we didn't end up getting a family photo at all this year - woops!)
Then Christmas Day was spent with Dave's side of the family for lunch and mine for dinner. It was a big fun day! Here's a snapshot from our Christmas...hope you're enjoying holiday mode!

'TIS THE SEASON

I feel like I should say something profound for my last post of the year, and leave you with something that will just blow your mind. But really, I like the simple things at Christmas - time with family, remembering, generosity, giving, and laughter. So these words below are truly what I hope for you this Christmas day and start to the new year.

I'm excited about 2012. There will be a few changes around our place as we welcome a new baby, and plan to move. And my mind is actively planning new adventures for this little business of mine. I have to remind myself it will all happen in good time!

So, this is the official sign off for the year. I'm going to lay low and charge full steam ahead with baking and Christmas food preparations today ready for tomorrow.

I'm so grateful for your support this year, it's been wonderful!

I have my last Christmas craft air drying at the moment. It is for our Christmas table, so I'll share with you after Christmas day, on how it all comes together. It was inspired by an idea I found on Pinterest.
Such a resourceful place to browse (and "waste" time!) I can get off on so many tangents, discover new blogs and inspiring people.

ALL BOXED UP

It's only a few sleeps till Christmas, and just three weeks till our baby arrives! I don't know what life will look like with a second child - so many unknowns all over again! I do hope he/she can wait till after Christmas though, I don't really wish for a Christmas birthday for this little one.

This past weekend, I organised an early surprise celebration for our 7th wedding anniversary coming up in January. I wanted to get a chance to have some quality time before our life gets a little addition. We had an overnight getaway, went to the movies *during the day* (gasp!), dinner in the city...ah the simple things. : )

It's a busy season for sure, but at the same time everything seems to start to winding down don't you think? Levi has his last day of Kindy this week, and we (I say that very loosely), made some passionfruit gem cookies to package up and give to his teachers. He even helped write his own name...awww. xo

HANGING COOKIE BAGS :: THE TWINERY

I recently discovered these gorgeous homemade cookies by Cookie Dough here in Australia. They are chunky little circles of goodness with amazing flavours! When my boxes of treats arrived recently, I wanted to display them in a fun way. I've had these oversized pegs from Typo and have been itching to use them. This seemed the perfect project.
Imagine these served up for a cookie bar for a "Milk & Cookies" themed party. Yum!

I used the party dots from my Snowflake Christmas printable collection and some Carribean & Maraschino twine to suspend some kraft paper bags. Hang them over your mantel or from your Christmas tree and they will definitely add some sweet goodness to your home! They may not last for long however!

This project was featured over at The Twinery blog today with a few more photos. It's my last contribution on their design team, which has been such a fun opportunity - thanks Nicole!

A LITTLE BIT HAMPTONS

I have always loved a beach party - we live in such a beautiful part of the world why not make the most of this gorgeous backdrop, I say. I did a surprise party for my sister on the beach last year which was a lot of fun, and then last month I had the opportunity to collaborate for a second party down on the Gold Coast with a group of wonderful ladies. It was featured on Amy Atlas this week, which always brings a smile to my face!

While planning another event with Tash from Whimsy Petite Styling, I explained an idea to use my Whimsical Bird stationery Collection for a promotional 'Hamptons' inspired shoot on the beach. She pretty much took that up and ran with it, ending up using it for a real party of hers. I just love everything she did and how it all turned out - the colours, the furniture & the details. The food, the photos & the dresses.

I'll stop with the words for now and let the photos by Sheila Higgins Photography tell the rest of the story...(it has been hard to cull it down with so many gorgeous photos to choose from so hope you don't mind all the pics!)

AFTER-PARTY CHERRY JAM

One of my regular customers and friend, Shannon, recently purchased the Cherry Love collection for her daughters 4th birthday. (You can see some of the photos in my Facebook album here.)

After the party, she made jam from all the cherries leftover from decorating and popped them into jars to give as Christmas gifts. Add some twine and a party dot and you're all set! What a creative idea!

ELLA'S BROWN PAPER & STRING PRINCESS PARTY

Okay I don't say this very often, but..."Oh my goodness, I love this party!"
I recently designed a new "Princess" collection for Maddie of Etta Photography. Her daughter Ella was turning 3 and wanted a pink princess party (don't all 3yr old girls?!) I have to say, not being tizzy girl myself, and being a mum of a little boy, I haven't had much to do with tutus and frills. But this party has changed my mind about how a princess party can look. Princesses are to girls are what trucks are to boys; it seems to be just built within them!

Maddie used a lot of pink which is kind of a given, but by using brown paper and some pretty home made touches it's still so very girly with no tulle in sight! It's a party any little girl would dream of. (And it kind of helps to have a mum who is an extremely talented photographer too!). Check out some of the photos Maddie sent me...

I love the tall paper party hats for decorating by the little guests, and all the cute food. (Thanks for making my printables look so good Maddie!) You can read and see more of this gorgeous party in her post here.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE WEEKEND

I hope you had a lovely weekend! We made our annual gingerbread house over the weekend. A family affair.
I used the template from Adriano Zumbo's whacky gingerbread house of Masterchef fame.

We tiled the roof with homemade freckles as per his instructions and then with the "help" of a three year old, we just stuck lollies all over the sides.

I don't see Adriano selling it in his patisserie, but it's built with a whole lotta love!

When Melanie from Mermade Designs sent me these photos of her son's Magical Garden Party, I knew I had to show you.
She used the Down in the Garden printable collection and really made it her own.

WEEKEND WHIP AROUND

Hey folks, I heralded in the first weekend of December with my first two Christmas parties this past weekend!
Saturday was a beautiful afternoon spent at Sirromet for the Womens Business Christmas party. Organised by Daneve of Ah-Tissue, it was the last chance of the year for women and mum's, who also live in this virtual world, to get out from behind the computer and have a conversation with a real person! I'm there at the back (3rd from R) between Linda from Bubble & Sweet & Bianca from Peekaboo Magazine. So many great girls and not enough time!
I also have to mention that I actually won something (!!) - a gorgeous necklace from Ruby Olive, thanks Skye! And we all went home with some seriously great loot from the goodie bags - yay!

Sunday was fun with friends...and some little reindeer. No, I didn't make them, but they were too cute not to share!

And we also have a full house with my mum and sister around (waiting for the twins to arrive!). C'mon little babies!

CHRISTMAS COOKIE JARS

I used these 'Joy' gift tags for our neighbour presents a couple of years ago. I baked my fave Mrs Fields Choc Chip Cookie recipe, packed them in jars and attached these tags with some ribbon. So cute! They'd be perfect for teacher gifts too, or use on their own as gift tags with a personalised 'to' & 'from' to fill in and attach to the gifts under the tree!
I've just added them here to the shop today, and they also co-ordinate with this Christmas card.

P.S. I just took photos of my new Christmas collection today, so a little editing and they will be in the shop really soon - promise! :)

'YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL' CHRISTMAS PARTY

I shared a little of the background of this event last week. I've finally had some time to go through the hundreds of photos I took and share a little glimpse of this special morning.
There were scores of volunteers involved in the morning which is an annual event that seriously makes you appreciate life, realise what is really important and feel a little bit proud to be involved in something that truly brings a little bit of light into the world of women who are struggling.

Due to the nature of the event, and the fact that I can't show you the women's faces and reactions to the morning, it's hard to portray the emotion that was in the room. So please use your imaginations and add a few tears, some laughs and a few rounds of goose bumps! The overall theme for the morning was 'you are beautiful'...

We were on a fairly tight budget for the decorating side of things. I always think a tight budget doesn't need to look cheap, but actually challenges you to come up with creative solutions to achieve the look you're after even when you don't have the luxury of going and buying what it is you need. A little bit more time is involved, but it still can look beautiful!
One of these 'creative challenges' were the cake stands and table runners. I'll share more on those in a follow up post...I have a feeling this is already going to be a long one!!
The purple was already determined, so we added white and a little silver throughout to add a little bit of glam Christmas. One of the big 'wow' factors was this 'chandelier' made from old fridge boxes complete with beads and light bulbs. One of the guys from the church made this in his 'spare time' - brilliant! Really was a talking point and focus for the room.

Bronwen Healy from Hope Foundation spoke and seriously you could have heard a pin drop as she shared her story of rehabilitation from drug addiction and the sex industry. One of the goose bump moments.

I designed the tables and all the paper goods for the morning, and had some great help to pull it all together. These tent cards had the program of events on one side and the menu on the other. Someone donated a tonne of macarons for the morning which greeted each of the ladies at their place when they arrived. There was a delicious morning tea with lots of savouries and sweets served.

After Bronwen spoke, the women had a chance to write down on the tags from the centrepieces and place any prayer requests on the tree at the front - there was a line up! Another amazing goose bump episode!

And to finish there was an "Oprah moment" where to the sound of Katy Perry's 'Firework', out paraded some volunteers, arms laden with these beautifully boxed gifts to take home! The third goose bump moment of the day!
Like I said it's hard to capture the vibe of the room in photos, but it is one event that will not be forgotten. I felt so honoured to be involved and use my 'everyday business' to help make a beautiful environment for these women. So special.

WEEKEND WHIP AROUND

I hope you had a lovely weekend. I feel a weight has been lifted from my shoulders knowing all my events are over for the year. I can now finish up some freelance work and then it's all Christmas!

Summer is defininately here now, lots of swimming and the first Mangoes of the season...

I went with a good friend to checkout the Warehouse sale of a few of my favourite stores - Little Maison, Sharnel Dollar Designs, Apple & Bee among a few others. I bought a few supplies that you might see in the coming weeks!

We enjoyed Fish & Chips at the local park. Chased birds, fed them chips and climbed trees - ahh the simple life is so refreshing!

And I had a little help with some Christmas baking in preparations for my new Christmas printable collection I'll share with you this week...yay!

IN A WORLD OF LAVENDER

My little world is all wrapped up around my last event of the year at the moment. I have cardboard, table runners, linen and centrepieces all swirling in my head and on most flat surfaces at my place! It's a really special event and as much as it has turned my world purple, it is a lot of fun!

You see it's an event for women who really need to hear that they are beautiful, that they have a reason for being, and have a worthwhile future.

Every month at my Church, they run a morning for women who are living in women's refuges', have been victims of domestic violence or just doing it tough. These women come and get pampered and shown love in a really practical way with food parcels, clothing and any other need they may have.

They can book in for massages, pedicures, manicures, and haircuts, all performed by women in the Church. They call it 'Royal Treatment' and they even enjoy a lovely morning tea and a listening ear while they wait!

A few years ago, I was asked to just take some photos of their end of year Christmas party. When I heard some of the stories first hand, and saw that these women were just like me, it seriously had me choked up. I realised then that this monthly program really did bring a little bit of love into their lives.

I knew their end of year Christmas party was approaching again and so I volunteered my time and any help I could give to help make it a special event for these women. There are over one hundred women who come to this event, so it's big! It has been so fulfilling to do something outside myself. I'm always reminded to use these gifts that I have to serve and show love to others. That's what it's all about right? That's what counts. So I'm happy to have lavender all around me this week as I join a team of women who are helping to create a Christmas party to remember for some really special women!

It's the big set up day tomorrow so I don't know if I'll be able to post till after it's all over, but, I can't wait to share this one with you all!

HOBO STICK :: PARTY CRAFT

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to the woods we go...

I've had this party craft idea swirling in my head for a little while. It's based on my Farmyard Collection and would be a great take home treat for your farmyard or camping/outdoor themed party. It's really easy too which is always a bonus, right mum's?!
Supplies Needed:

50cm square (approx) of Red Fabric or Hankerchief
Farmyard Thank you Tag
Red Ribbon
Stick
Farmyard Cookie Bag Topper & cellophane bag
Animals & take home treats

I put some simple supplies in like milk, a little fruit pie and some farmyard animals in a cellophane bag tied up inside.

I haven't taken photos of how I put it together, but it's fairly straight forward (leave me a comment if you have any questions!) -

1. Place all your goodies in the centre of the fabric square.

2. Tie opposite corners together

3. Place stick over that knot & tie the remaining opposite corners over your stick to hold in place

4. Tie on thank you tag

5. Done!

And I had quite the willing participant for my photoshoot when he discovered he could eat the contents of his "hobo stick" when we were done!

Don't you think a boy would love to take something like this home from your party...I know he'd be imagining the grand adventures that lie ahead!

PARTY WALLPAPER

Party wallpaper is perfect for behind a dessert table and for creating a strong theme for your party space. Stuck to a surface with blue tack or double sided tape it has a huge 'wow' factor when your guests walk in!

I used a wallpaper last year at Levi's party and also behind the Spud bar. And good news is I can now print them cheaper, so that saving is passed on to you! (Save $80!!).

UNDER THE SEA :: CUSTOMER PARTY

It's a customer party today, from under the sea! Do you remember this custom invite I designed and asked for you to help Kristy, and pick your favourite?

Well, her son had a wonderful 1st birthday party last month and she's allowed me to share a few photos with you.

There was sea creature cookie decorating, lots of fun and games and scrumptious looking food! I love the idea of using the cookie bag toppers as a name tag while their cookie creations dried - clever mum thinking!

HAPPY PLACES :: KIKKI-K

It's been a fun and big weekend in my little spot of the world. I'm still digging my way out from the Facebook sale. Orders are just about to start heading to the big shiny red post boxes! Yay!

While a sale like that is a huge the logistical undertaking, I had a really creative and recharging weekend. I headed to Finders Keepers for the first time and loved it. I bought a few letterpress bits and pieces from this stall, and some cute wrapping paper from these girls (see a paper theme emerging at all?!). So energizing being in a place with other creative, handmade kinda people.

I went for (pregnancy friendly) drinks on Sunday to a new fave place, for a friends birthday (felt all carefree and single again - woot!). It reminded me of an African safari lodge and got me reminiscing.

And I got a new diary for the new year from, seriously, one of my favourite 'happy places'. Love Kikki-K, and really loving their new Ice Cream collection. Their ice cream diary, magnet & pen set has found a new home with me. Even though I love technology, I still run off an 'old school' paper diary. Nothing like it!

FEELING LIKE CHRISTMAS

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in my Facebook sale last night! It went till quite late, but was a lot of fun. I hope you have some stationery and party goods ready for your parties coming up! There were a few things that I still had left over, so I've created an album on my Facebook page with those items that are still for sale if you're interested.

This sale was one thing I wanted to do before everything Christmas started. Once I get everyones orders finalised and shipped, I get to get stuck into some Christmas projects I have planned. I love this season of the year, it's my favourite!
Tickle the Imagination's online magazine Christmas issue came out this month and it's definitely got me in the creative Christmas spirit! If you haven't seen this online mag, I highly recommend subscribing to it!

WEEKENDING AT BRISSTYLE TWILIGHT MARKETS

We ended up heading into the city on Friday night for the BrisStyle Twilight Markets. So glad I did. We turned it into a night out by taking the bus (for Levi's sake - never seen a child grin so much!), and grabbing some dinner in the city.

The markets themselves were a little smaller than I anticipated, but it was such a lovely vibe. Lots of people buzzing about leaving work for the day or heading out for the night. It makes me want to open a bricks & mortar shop when I see creative products displayed so prettily - maybe one day!

I met with a few old contacts there - Enticing Icing, Moose & Bird, Rod n Lil....My fave stall was Chelley Bean Designs who sold all these little paper embellishments, they were really cute and inexpensive, which made it easy to justify my purchases! : ) I've already used half the tissue paper flowers on gifts over the weekend - cute!

SMILE FOR THE CAMERA

It was a sad day when we discovered that it was going to cost us more to repair my dying DSLR camera than it was to buy a new one, and for the past few months, I've been using a borrowed a friends' camera for work around the place.

We bought our camera just before we got married and went on our honeymoon and just about everywhere else with us since - it's had a good life. Since it was about seven years old, we thought we could probably justify an updated version. I've been keeping my eye out for bargains and this week my new camera & 50mm lens arrived in the mail! It was really the lens that I was hanging out for.

Levi & I got stuck into some early Christmas cookie baking yesterday (it's never too early right?!) and I thought I'd start practicing with my new toy! Still need some practice but, oh boy I love the depth of field I can get with this thing. I do wonder with all the detail shots I take, how I've survived all this time without it!! I love it.

Thanks so much for purchasing from my store to make this new little baby a part of my life (a little too attached already...I think so!), but I'm really grateful!

If the rain stays away, I'm going to head into the Brisstyle Indie Twilight Markets tonight. I've never been before but heard great things about it, can't wait. I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

COUCH MAKEOVER

My mum has this hobby of collecting antique and second hand furniture with the view to revive it. One of these pieces she had sitting around was a wicker outdoor setting that has definitely been 'pre-loved'. A double and two single seated set. It was kind of in bad shape - sun damaged wicker and the fabric was a little dodgy to say the least!

I had this grand idea to do it up for Salem's baby shower. Time kind of ran away from me though and it wasn't till the Thursday before the shower that it really got started! Call me crazy, but a vision is a vision, and I wasn't going to drop it without giving it a good go! Eden (another of my sisters) painted the frames white and my job was the sewing/re-upholstery part.

I ran out of fabric and time in the end, so I only just the double seat was done in time. But I did whip up a couple of pair cushions to match. I think it's going to look great when it's all completed.

Now that I've told you I'm going to finish it, there is no way off the hook now...you'll have to keep me accountable!!

PERFECT PAIR BABY SHOWER

So Saturday was the big day for my sisters baby shower! It was pretty, a lot of fun and came together so beautifully. Salem got to hang out with her friends and celebrate the impending arrival of these little twins!

We based the whole theme on a 'Perfect Pair'. You can see the invite & mood board which were the inspiration behind the whole theme. We'd worked out a menu a while before, and had all the female family members contribute something which definitely took the pressure off in the kitchen department!

One big box of pears, some baby's breath and some props I or us girls already had, made it quite easy to decorate (I love it when a style fits with personal taste!). I think the biggest outlay was the re-covering of the couch...but more on that later.

Here's how it all looked on the day...rustic, pretty and yummy!

The macarons were served in a lace bowl made from a doilie. And chocolate mousse in little jars with wooden spoons attached. So cute!
The drinks and take home treats were displayed on a white sideboard table. I used party dots cut with a flourish punch and 'sealed' with baking paper and jute string.

The take home treats were muslin bags filled with Nutella truffles (seriously good!); with a thank you hang tag, jute string and sprig of baby's breath.
And another sister made a green ombre cake inspired by this one. It was with great anticipation that Mercy cut into it to see that yes, all the layers were in fact in the right order :)

And a photo of me and my sisters - including my 29wk pregnant tummy! (Unfortunately my sister-in-law had gone home when we took this and I didn't realise till later I didn't get a photo of Salem & my mum. Sniff.) I truly love a big family!

It was such a fun afternoon! I was going to share about the couch makeover, but I will release you from the longest post in history, and share tomorrow.

I love seeing my customers parties in action. To see an order that I've sent electronically morph into a physical party on the other end... it seriously never gets old!

Daisy, from new party styling business Leo & Bella, bought my Tiffany printable collection for a customers housewarming party recently. DIY LABOUR KIT

Never fear, my blog isn't turning into a baby blog and I'm not about to share labour stories, but it just feels a little bit like baby season at the moment in my world. One of my closest friends is due any day now, and last week I put together a bit of a fun and positive 'labour kit' for her as her due date closes in. Some of it practical, but some just because.

Kit included:

Gatorade (they say labour's like a marathon....)
Chocolate or "energy pellets"
Mini Oreo's or "husband support power" - it can get tough for the guys! :)
Brie Cheese & Crackers (just because you can't have it when you're pregnant)
Magazine
Puzzle Book

I put a few fun stickers on some of the bits and pieces and packed it all in a hamper box.

Since the gender is a secret, I based the colour scheme on this invite which I used for a personal note inside, as well as a matching hang tag. Let me know if you're interested and I can add the tags to the store...

I think it kind of turned out fun without getting too scary! Anything else you'd add to a labour kit for a friend?

VISUAL KINDA GAL

It's all stations go this week at my place. Along with normal orders and design work, I have to get a printed order out by tomorrow - 120 invitations for a charity event I'm working on, and it's also full steam ahead on the preparations for my sisters baby shower this coming weekend. I feel my diary is definitely mapped out for the week! Putting together and crafting of all the bits and pieces to help make it a fun day is my favourite.
It's mock up afternoon this afternoon with one of my sisters too. I like to get a visual on how things are coming together and give time to fill in any gaps that are needed. Fun times! Are you a 'wing it' kind of person, or do you plan and visualise everything?

I'm so excited for summer! The weather lately has been warming up nicely and it's almost pool weather.
In getting in the spirit of the warmth that's on its way, I wanted to create a new element for my popular Ice Cream Sundae printable collection. I designed an ice cream cone wrap for a great addition to your ice cream bar.

An ice cream bar is such an easy and fun way to serve dessert to party guests, or why not let people create their own dessert at your next summer BBQ. I can guarantee it won't be just the kids having a great time!

SOPHIE'S PAPER DOLL PRINCESS PARTY

You've heard me talk about Linda from Bubble & Sweet before. She is the clever lady behind the cookies I used here, here & here.
I was recently able to pay back the cookie baking talents by designing some custom stationery for her daughters birthday.

It was going to be a 'Paper Doll Princess Party' with polkadots, pink and pretty girly things. She wanted her daughter turned into a paper doll, based on a sketch of this image from a photoshoot she was in. So I set to work and created an invite, buffet labels and thank you tags for little Sophie. The party turned out so cute!

My favourite part...hands down, are the dress-up cookie dolls - genius!

CHOCOLATE ICE CREAMS

I have ice cream on my mind this week after designing some 'summer' props for a photo shoot yesterday. It's gotten me in the mood for summer, and has inspired a new printable item to share with you later this week. (Oh, so fun!)
But in the meantime, you might recognise a 'chocolate on a stick' fetish I seem to have developed (see here & here). And it reminded me of these little guys from when I put together the Father's Day crate of goodies.

While not really 'Father-y' I had to pop a couple of these little chocolate ice creams in my shopping basket when I found them at the lolly shop - too cute to ignore. Levi gave them a taste-run after I took some photos to share. Definitely no taste complaints!

Hmmm, now how to personalise and colour co-ordinate something like this....my mind never turns off!

PERFECT PAIR SHOWER INVITES

I designed these invitations for my sisters baby shower I shared with you earlier this week. They are keeping the gender of the babies a secret, so a sage green was a perfect neutral colour choice and we went with a 'Perfect Pair' theme. She wanted something a bit chic and not really 'babyish' for her shower, so I drew a lot of inspiration from weddings on this event.
I didn't want it too tacky and cartoonish with the pairs, but create a more soft and sophisticated look with the rustic little nest and detail.
The invite was given in a lined envelope with an address label wrap (a new printable item?!). I think they turned out so pretty. I can't wait to design some matching elements for it!

Lots of preparations and fun crafty props to make for this one. Yay! I've been propping all day it feels like for this celebration - this morning and tonight, I'm getting really excited! I can't wait to meet these little guys...or girls!

HAPPY PLACES :: ART STORES

I wanted to start a new little series around here where I can share with you all my 'happy places'. I have a few shops, cafe's and activities, that make me plain ole' happy and make me feel like I'm living the best life possible. I often leave with my creativity boosted and busting with fun ideas. I truly feel blessed to live in a free country with many so many 'happy' opportunities.

Today's 'Happy Place' is the ever-inspiring art store. I regularly pop into Riot, but yesterday I was at a routine Dr's appointment which just happens to be down the road from an Eckersley's. I hadn't been into one since I finished my design degree...quite a while! I got so inspired by the colours, paper, tools and gadgets for art and craft...there was a rainbow of colour at every turn!

I picked up some watercolour supplies. (I've seen lots of fun things with watercolour lately and I'm ready to give it a whirl on an upcoming project.) I even had Levi with me, and he was gold! (Didn't touch much at all :) He loved the paper, paints and he was quite taken with the life-sized human sketching model!

I'll share some more of my fave places in the weeks to come, but I'd love to know what some of your happy places are!

It's all babies in our family at the moment. I've got a few months to go still till our baby is due, and one of my sisters is also pregnant...with twins! Fun right? She's due a few weeks before me.

WEDDING ICE CREAM BAR :: DAVID & ASHER

In January this year, one of my sisters, Asher, got married. It was summer, it was boutique and casual and I loved the vibe the whole wedding had. So family & intimate. I designed the invite and other paper goods to match her vintage floral theme, and she also asked me to put together an ice cream bar for the guests as dessert.

Their wedding was meant to be featured in the next edition of Wedding Style Guide, but since they are no longer publishing their magazine, (*sniff!*) I am free to share all these gorgeous piccies of the sundae bar with you!

A lot of the toppings were displayed in floral bowls from a dinner set that Asher already had. It was so pretty and didn't really need a lot of prettying up.
I used some co-ordinating framed instructions for the bar and added some buffet labels with strips of fabric around other glass jars and jugs. The fabric strips were left over from the wall-hanging hoops and bunting Asher made, which really helped tie in this area with the other food and drink areas at the house.
After everyone was full with ice cream and toppings it was time for a refreshing dip in the pool...who does that a wedding? Love it!

I have had an idea in my head for a while with this gorgeous twine, and that is to create those starched string balls you probably made in primary school. Remember doing that with wool and a big balloon? I'm sure teachers loved cleaning up after that art class!

I wanted to do miniature versions so I used water balloons to get a small round shape. I wrapped each with twine that had been dipped in PVA glue and then hung to dry. Once dry and the balloon was popped, you have these firm little twine balls. Cute and mini right?

I thought they would make great present toppers for a gift box. Think of the colour combos you could do for a themed party...or Christmas garland, or birthdays!
I don't know about you, but those lovely twine colours just say "Party" to me!

TISSUE PAPER CONFETTI

I made confetti for a project I'm working on for tomorrow. Not rocket science by any stretch of the imaination, just tissue paper and a 1" punch, but it just looks so pretty and feels so soft and float-y. I love it (except when sprinkled all over the carpet on the floor in a nameless childs' bedroom!).

I can see more tissue paper confetti in my near future. Think one or two colours to match a party...in the mail...on the dinner table...ooo I love it!

BABUSHKA BABES

Okay, I think I've saved the best till last of these new collections. Actually not my best, but Linda's best. Linda from Bubble & Sweet (who coincindently lives down the road from me...who knew!), made all the cookies & macarons I used in the Cherry Love, Cocktails at Tiffany's & this Babushka shoot.

She is seriously one clever cookie herself. When Linda dropped these goodies off I would like pop the lid and show them off to anyone and everyone who dropped by! (I had one friend whip out her phone and started snapping away saying how her teenage daughters would just love them...).

They are amazing don't you think? She put so much detail into them. And those square ones...ahhh gorgeous!

And check out this awesome idea she did for her daughters vintage paper doll party recently - I love an original creative idea...genius!

DOWN ON THE FARM

Happy Monday everyone! It's time to head down to the farm as I share my last new design with you.
This is an older invitation that I re-designed with new colours (originally orange, brown & green) and had the lovely Naomi take much better photos than my original version!

I kind of like the farmyard theme because it's not gender specific. The invitation even comes with your choice of boy or girl farmer depending on the guest of honour. They're cuties!

COCKTAILS AT TIFFANY'S

I had a wonderful time away on the beach with my family in the sun. Great memories and fun times. I loved having some time out and getting some space from the daily onslaught of technology, blog and online shop, to actually step back and re-asses, but more on my musings about that next week...

Today it's time to launch "Cocktails at Tiffany's" This is the third of my new designs I am (slowly) introducing you to. (You can see the first ones here - Cherry Love & Safari Park.)

This was a custom invite design I did for a friend's 30th earlier this year, but I loved it so much I thought it would be a great addition to my range as a complete collection. Something for us women-folk! With personalised text, it would be a perfect theme-setter for a bridal shower, 25th, 30th or 40th birthday. Or even an anniversary or engagement party. So pretty and chic! Cocktails anyone?

So pretty right? I can't wait to see what you create with these printables. It's becoming a new favourite!

SPONTANEOUS LIVING

I'm feeling a little young and spontaneous today as we've decided to make the most of a break between Dave's work contracts, and take a little mini holiday! Woohoo! We're off to the beach for a couple of nights...mid-week. Did you get that? Not even the weekend! We never do this kind of thing, so I'm really looking forward to a little breather before we head into the last few months of the year. Just what the doctor ordered I think. See you on the other side!

CHOC MOUSSE SHOTS :: WEEKEND WHIPAROUND

You probably know by now that the recipes I share here are by no means MasterChef standard. They are simple but always delicious - solid, reliable, yummy. You can always jazz something up in a cute jar, with some ribbon or paper goods. At least that's the way I roll!

This little chocolate mousse number is from my sister and I used for the Cherry Love & Safari Park shoots. And, I've actually got some in the fridge right now as part of a choc-berry parfait I'm preparing for friends coming to dinner tonight. It's a super easy recipe...

CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

600ml Thickened Cream
250g Chocolate, melted
600ml Chocolate custard (I use Pauls Double Thick)
Whip cream. Gradually whip in, chocolate custard & melted chocolate till completely mixed through. Put into dish or individual ramekins. Chill till set.

Enjoy!

Next up in my new design release is this Safari Park collection. I have had the invitation & baby shower invite designed for a while, but have recently had a few requests for more co-ordinating pieces to have now expanded this range.
It is a personal favourite design of mine which I used it for Levi's first birthday (we found out we were pregnant with him while living in Africa, hence the soft spot!). I really like how it turned out and makes me want to host his first birthday all over again!

WEEKENDING :: HAPPY FATHERS DAY

Here's a little something Levi and I put together for Dave for Fathers day. I found lots of his fave Canadian treats at Candy Time (for exhorbitant imported prices of course!). We packaged them up in this little crate and tied with a ribbon and a cute hand made note. It was a winner!

We spent the day just chilling, went to the foreshore for lunch then dinner with some friends.

What a dad, and what a perfect relaxing day after a big week!

ARRGGHHH...A PIRATES LIFE FOR ME!

I had other things planned for the blog today, but they can wait because...I woke this morning to find one of my collaborated party's featured over at Kara's Party Ideas. That's a pretty good start to the day in my books!

I teamed up with Whimsy Petite Styling on this party. (You may remember the Kite party we worked on together?) I designed a new printable collection for the occasion and went 'treasure shopping' aka junk yard shopping, while Tash pretty much did all the grunt to make the props and theme shine (a good deal for me! :)

The guest of honour was a 6yr old boy, and I think he and his 'crew' had the best time scaling all the challenges given to them in order to obtain clues to their hidden treasure!

Each guest had a place at the banquet table on the deck where their lunch was waiting.

What a spread! It was such a fun party! Great job Tash and huge thanks to Kara for sharing!

CHERRY LOVE

I've been designing and propping my little heinie off lately, with the goal to have some of my collections photographed last week by the very talented (not mention all round nice girl), Naomi from Naomi V Photography. Today is the day I share the first one with you! Yippee! I'm so excited about them, I hope you like them as much as I do!

First up is Cherry Love, a sweet design that is perfect as we come into summer. I designed it with an older girl in mind, but was sharing with a friend last week and she has her eye on it for her daughters 1st birthday; so age is out the window!

HEY THERE LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

This was my favourite article from the first edition of Tickle the imagination. Did you guess it?

Thetis from Little Sooti blog gave a lovely glimpse at the behind the scenes making of this Little Red Riding Hood dessert scape, I felt emersed in it! I love how eerie it is. A little bit dark and mysterious...and I really love that the rain that started as a problem, turned into something that I think made this inspiration shoot all the better for it!

The clincher for me was this video from photographer Laura Cioccia - make sure your sound is on!
Well done to all involved. It's a stand out.

Dad's are notoriously hard to buy presents for. Agreed? I don't know the official stats, but there is a high percentage of dads that will be getting a gift card this year for father's day. Super easy; they can trot off and buy something they've had their eye on.

Often, these said gift cards, get pop into an envelope and handed to the father of the moment over breakfast in bed or lunch. TICKLE THE IMAGINATION

I have seen a lot of e-magazines popping up all over the place. I've even had the opportunity to contribute to one in the past. Today, I stumbled upon a complete gem, dare I say my new favourite! I read nearly every page of "tickle the imagination", and for me as a curl-up-on-the-couch with a paper magazine lover, that's saying a lot!

There are tutorials, interviews, photos, behind the scenes - just great content. Maybe I just love it because it's Australian? Anyway, I hope you have a read and enjoy as much as I did.

LEVI TURNS 3

Levi turned 3 on the weekend, we awoke to a worried "there are bayoons in my room"...but once he learned that we put them there for his birthday...
Do you remember being this excited for your birthday?! Oh boy! Let me just say for the record, the balloons were a hit!

I used Levi's love of the weekly rubbish truck visit as the inspiration for a simple theme for his birthday. Wrapping his presents in newspaper, and theming a family dinner around rubbish, with newspapers, recycling & tin foil. We had "junk food" for mains finished with strawberries (requested) and the much wished for rubbish truck cake (decorated by one pretty clever daddy!).
Along with the newspaper table cloth, bamboo plates and wooden cutlery I put together, local wonder woman Daneve from Ah-Tissue, created some custom newspaper pom-poms for the night, they looked amazing. It all came together in a fun, junky kind of way! It was such a fun theme to pull together and I think Levi might have just had a little more fun than me!

THE THINGS I LEARNT AT EKKA 2011

"Hello my name is Jordan and I'm a carnival lover"...And carnivals don't get much bigger than our state's 'Ekka' that's on at the moment.
I hadn't been in a few years and we really wanted to take Levi as it was his first time.

So, after an Ekka drought, there are a few things I learnt about our annual show...

1. Catching the train to the Ekka and back is an event in itself to a three year old
2. The 'old school' exhibits are still the best as ever - the woodchop, baby animal nursery, stunt drivers, and baking & cake judging!
3. I should have been putting money away for months to pay for all the over-priced games and food!

4. Saying "Gentle"to a child holding a baby chick is a waste of breath. (Thank you Lord it didn't die on me...that would have been a memory-maker!)

5. The reality of eating a Dagwood dog is not as good as the memory of eating a Dagwood dog

6. Choc dipped strawberries are always as good as you remember

7. Don't take your child on a ginormous slide after they wake up from a nap, it's hard to recover from that.

8. Showbag pavillion = human sandwich

but finally...

9. No matter how old you are there is nothing quite like fireworks to end a great day!

My magnetic 'job' board in my office was just a plain white, very task orientated place of orders, ideas and things to follow up on (or things that haven't yet been filed!) Pretty much paper stuck to bulldog clips. So, today I've got a little something to make your office or work space a little brighter with the help of some bright twine!

DIY PINWHEELS :: WEDDING CHICK

What a lovely tutorial for making your own paper pinwheels. Tash used similar pinwheels in our Kite Party last week. Perfect for weddings, parties or picnic in the park. I'll be filing this away for future reference I think!

PIZZA SCROLLS :: RECIPE

Today I bring you the ever-faithful pizza scroll. It's another of my go-to recipes that I pull out for parties, morning tea, lunches, girls nights...and I haven't met someone yet who doesn't like them (unless my friends are all being really polite!).

To be honest the word 'recipe' is used very loosely in this instance, because there is actually no measuring or mixing of any kind. Hooray! They are super simple and easy enough for little helpers too!

Ingredients:
:: Puff Pastry Sheets
:: Pizza sauce
:: Ham
:: Pineapple
:: Cheese & any other vegies or pizza toppings you like.

Lay out the puff pastry sheets to thaw. Spread with pizza sauce (I use Leggo's squeeze bottle pizza sauce). Sprinkle with your toppings - meat, vegies, then top with cheese.

Employ the ever faithful pizza scroll maker on this job {those cheeks are not usually that big}

{And...beware of mice! :) }

Roll up into a log

Cut into rounds. I get ten good sized rounds out of one sheet, but you could do thinner ones and get more if you prefer.

Place rounds face up on a tray lined with baking paper (makes for an easy clean up and so you're not scrubbing cheese off your trays for weeks to come!). Bake in a moderate oven for about 10-15mins or until cheese and pastry are golden brown.

Eat warm, and just see if you can stop at only one!

Once you get in the groove and puff pastry is a regular in your freezer, you can just chuck whatever you like on these, I often use grated carrott, or diced capsicum to get the vegie quota in. Or you could just do cheese and pizza sauce... Let me know what combo's you try!

I have woken today with my first (and fingers crossed, last) cold of winter. I have survived healthy so far, but today I have fallen. Sore throat, sinus, and heavy head. I don't know about you, but I am totally ready for summer!
I read that it is Ice Cream sandwich day in the US today. I had no idea (who decides on these things I would love to know!), but I'd love a summer ice cream party right about now. Are you a winter or summer lover?

LET'S GO FLY A KITE

You may have seen this party on Birthday Girl yesterday. How sweet is it? This was a custom design I did in collaboration with Tash of Whimsy Petite Styling. Tash and I have worked together on a number of occasions lately and it's always fun. This girl is going places and has a real eye for detail and making a party one to remember - from location and furniture to food and activities, it all just ties together beautifully!

A custom name banner decorates a refashioned dresser, which is a perfect way to serve all the food and display the favour boxes decorated with party dots.

I'm sure this little girl is still thinking of her first ever birthday party!

PEPPA PIG :: CUSTOM DESIGN

One of my lovely sponsors here at Polkadot Prints, Pauline from The Party Studio, also owns Sophisticated Yum an event styling business. She asked me to custom design some stationery for her daughters upcoming 6th birthday back in June. Amelia wanted a pink and purple Peppa Pig themed party. (Have you seen the TV show of this funny pig family?)

Of course there are licensing issues when it comes to character parties, so I designed just using the Peppa Pig style of illustration. It was a fun challenge as it's not my natural style, but I think it was a strong enough association to convey the theme and set the mood for the party! From the invite there were matching buffet labels and thank you tags.

Pauline really went to town with themed food table and decorations for this party. So much fun!

I love how she picked up different elements from the show and invite - gumboots, muddy puddles, apples cookies, and that cake! So gorgeous!

Levi's birthday is coming up and I am thinking of traditions we can do as a family for birthdays now that he is a bit older and (totally) knows what's going on!
I would love to wake up to a room full of balloons on my birthday, how much fun would it be? I wonder if a 3yr old child would be freaked out or totally wowed...I'm going to give it a try!

FAVOUR FRIDAY :: CHOC-A-BLOCK CANADIANS

Did you celebrate Canada day? I'm glad lots of you used the free printables I shared with you. I ended up using the party dots to package some favours I had at each place setting of our Canada Day dinner party (dinner party sounds so fancy eh? We had friends over for dinner and we had a table cloth on the table. That equals dinner party in my books!).

I saw these chocolate bars last year. I discovered they don't ship to Australia, so I have been on a casual search for the perfect moulds to make my own. It took me a few months but I found one here. I thought Canada day would be the perfect excuse to use them for the first time.
The adults had the big bars and the kids got little ones. I used mini Oreos & mini marshmallows on the backs they felt Canadian enough!

I then popped them into white paper bags, crossed over with red ribbon and sealed with a party dot. Sweet!

BLAST OFF! :: SPACE PARTY

I love pretty dessert tables as much as the next person, believe me! But I know that many parents send their children off to a party wondering if the peace and quiet of one less child for a few hours is worth the sugar-induced behaviour later that afternoon! There are lots more allergies around these days too, so for my latest feature in Peekaboo Magazine, (out last month...it's been a long time coming!) I designed a new printable collection; a Space themed, sugar-free party...

Enter the Potato 'Spud-nik' bar! - get it??!!

Based on this invitation design, there were matching buffet labels, wallpaper, party dots (I made a cute transfer for the napkins, but can be used as regular cupcake toppers as well), sign, thank you tags & one-off party blowers.

The buffet featured heaps of hot foil covered potatoes with yummy galactic toppings! Each glass bowl rested on it's own 'launch-pad' made from ducting and poly fill.

And traditional silver slinky's make for a great sugar-free party favour and fit with our space them. It's sure to last longer than a lollipop and find a permanent place in the toy box!

I really like how the kids table turned out, and it had some clever 'space' placemats (made with matching A4 patterned paper and silver cake boards.) The foil covered legs make it look like this table is about to blast off into space!
I love the space garlands used behind this table from my beautiful friend Mel of The Paper Tie Affair. Seiously she is awesome and a kindred paper lover!!

And then finishing off with these co-ordinating party blowers following this tutorial.
All that fun and no sugar, means no hyper kids here!!

THIS LITTLE LIFE OF MINE

Hey all! Well, I'm back on board after a week off! And can I say how enjoyable it was. As much as I love you all and love getting orders and designing, after a hectic few months, I really needed to get my creative mojo back. I don't know if it's all fully back on deck again yet, but I definitely see it up ahead now.

I spent 4 days last week visiting my parents which was so relaxing. There was mainly a lot of walking, eating and sitting going on. They live near the beach and so even though it was a tad on the cold side (for my tropical-loving self anyway), we trekked down and played in the sand a few times which made for one happy boy!

One of the reasons I've been so slow in emails, blogging and all round enthusiasm for anything other than a pillow and salty crackers is because....I'm pregnant!!! I know crazy right? After last year's heartache this is just a little miracle for Dave and I ...and I'm feeling good (other than the morning sickness of course!).

I know I will look back and wish I had done some kind of creative announcement to you all but seriously, my energy levels have been next to zero, so words and a picture will have to do today (and I can't keep it secret for any longer!!). So...baby number two is on it's way!

Woohoo!! (do these exclamation marks hide the fact that I'm really sitting here typing, but wishing I could be in bed already? oh the joys of hormones!! :)

OH CANADA! :: FREE PRINTABLES

Alrighty Canadians, today is your lucky day, eh?!
I know there is all that hooplah about another important date in July for your southern neighbours, but this giveaway is all about you and the 1st (not 4th) of July...Canada Day!

And why on earth would a fun-loving Aussie girl care about the significance of a day celebrated on the other side of the world? Well, I happened to marry a Canadian and so I owe it one and half members (husband + son) of my family to celebrate this day in red & white style!

Last year we did a big shebang as we had some friends from Canada visiting, but this year it's going to be a bit quieter. I thought you might enjoy putting to use these party dots, some decorative paper, and the Canadian quiz we used.

One project I was so happy to be involved in was a photo shoot for Etta Photography (you may remember my sisters wedding earlier this year and those gorgeous photos - And I still have to show you more of that wedding...but alas, another day! :)
Maddie is the talent behind those images and so when she asked me to help her design some elements for a 'Love Story' shoot, of course I made sure I squeezed it in!

So vintage and fun!

I'M ALIVE

I thought I should pop in and let you know I am still alive! I've had my head buried in lots of party things, lots of email and order (can anyone say P.A??). I've been busy being a mum and just with life in general. You know those busy patches you go through? I feel I am emerging from out the other side! And I finally have some routine work hours sorted now too which always helps the situation. Yay for babysitters!!

Just wanted to let you know there's lots on the horizon and I'm looking forward to sharing lots of recent projects and ideas with you - talk soon! xo

RECIPE :: JELLY SLICE

Okay, so you asked for it! I have been given official permission to share the family recipe of Jelly Slice with you. Feeling privileged? It's a trusty menu number that gets pulled out at our place at any opportunity. It's not an overly glamourous dessert, but boy does it taste delicious!

Jelly Slice

Base:

8oz crushed sweet biscuits (ie. Marie, Milk Arrowroot)

60z melted butter

Mix and press into slice tin

Middle:

1 tin condensed milk

1/2 c. lemon juice

3/4 c. boiling water

2 Dstsp gelatine (sprinkle over water before adding to mixture)

Mix and pour on base. Refridgerate

Top:

1 strawberry jelly box

3/4 pint only boiling water

When cool put on top of set middle and chill.

Kind of like an easy cheesecake. The great thing about this slice is the top layer can be made any colour to match you party. The traditional is red, but we have done green for St Paddy's day, Aqua for Levi's party, Navy for the nautical theme (added food colouring to blueberry jelly) and the list goes on. For pastel shades, try this product with just a tiny bit of colouring.

AHOY THERE SAILOR!

In the last little while I have had some lovely exposure of Polkadot Prints. Welcome to those of you who are new followers, thanks!
The latest feature was from Kim of the The TomKat Studio. If you're a fan of hers, you may have seen this party on her blog yesterday. It was the first birthday & dedication of my nephew, who it feels has almost grown up on this blog - baby shower, birth announcement, and now first birthday & dedication. (It helps that my sister loves events and planning!)

His room has a classic nautical colour scheme and so translating that to his party was only natural. There were a lot more adults than children at the party, so we were able to do a few more grown up things with food which was fun. Take a look ::

Salt & pepper squid and curly fries came out fresh in paper cones with decorative party dots - they were gone in a heartbeat!

This jelly slice is so handy as you can make the top layer any colour you like to match your event. You may have seen it here before. The cake was made by another sister Mercy - legend!

Another winner - Mini Hot Dogs; adults loved these just as much as the kids! All the paper goods so-ordinated with these invites. Rectangle & round buffet labels and straw tags really helped tie the theme together.

I used these pyramid treat boxes personalised for each guest to fill with lollies as a take home treat. Yum!
And one of the birthday boy and my sister...so pretty!

IT AIN'T A PARTY WITHOUT STREAMERS

MADE is one of my daily blog reads. It's creative and gives me a breather from 'party world' (the affectionate name I have given all the party girls and blogs I love and am a part of!).

While usually clothes or home related, Dana has a sewing project that's perfect for any party or get together. She has created these awesome crepe paper streamers, that go from this:

And morph through a sewing machine into this...

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement after my post last week. I know Rachael read them (even the ones that blogger kindly removed during their maintenance!). I know grief is a long road, that never fully disappears, but praying it will be easier each day. And big hugs and prayers back to those of you who had shared similar heartache. Life is definitely not easy sometimes. xo

Well, just wanted to say thank you. I'll be back to regular posting tomorrow!

GOODBYE IS THE HARDEST WORD

Today I watched one of my closest friends say goodbye to their baby boy. I can not get over how last time I saw her, she was pregnant and her little boy was kicking in her tummy. And today I watched her sitting at the funeral no baby and no pregnant belly. It's just wrong. It's not the way it's meant to be. So many tears.
Too many unanswered questions.
A song was played at the beginning of the service today with the chorus;

'I will carry you
While your heart beats here
Long beyond the empty cradle
Through the coming years
I will carry you
All your life
And I will praise the One who's chosen me
To carry you'.

What strength and faith these friends displayed. Love them. And praying for the journey they have before them as they grieve their little boy.
I don't have much else to say today. Just didn't want to miss this opportunity to honour my friends and this little life that was way too short. xo
